Interactive Science Glossary
The Interactive Science Glossary is a resource that supports students who are learning the language of science. This resource includes written and spoken definitions and sentences in both Spanish and English. Students can even create, download, and print their own vocabulary cards.
Language Arts Resources
LAR utilizes many techniques to help students learn the content. This is done by breaking the concepts down into smaller/targeted concepts, utilizing color coding, charts, mnemonics, graphics, audio clips, easy-to-grasp written and/or auditory explanations that students can internalize with ease; font size for emphasis; practice quizzes for students to self-check for understanding; level quizzes that progress from surface knowledge --> to connecting several concepts --> to applying the content to practical examples.
These learning techniques are especially beneficial for students who are English Language Learners (ELL), Limited English Proficient (LEP), English As Second Language (ESL), Special Education (SPED), and/or Sect. 504 students.

Matter and Energy - Atomic Structure

Students will identify how global patterns of atmospheric movement influence local weather.
Oceans and Weather Systems
Students will identify the role of the oceans in the formation of weather systems such as hurricanes.
Organisms and Environments - Organisms Interactions
Students will describe producer/consumer, predator/prey, and parasite/host relationships as they occur in food webs.
Organisms and Environments - Humans and Ocean Systems
Students will identify how humans depend on ocean systems and explain how human activities such as runoff, artificial reefs, or use of resources have modified these systems.
Matter and Energy—Chemical Reactions
Given descriptions or illustrations, students will investigate how evidence of chemical reactions indicates that new substances with different properties are formed.
The Moon—Lunar Cycle and Tides
Given models and illustrations, students will identify, demonstrate, and predict the sequence of events in the lunar cycle and relate the position of the moon and sun to their effect on ocean tides.

You will learn how to analyze, make inferences, and draw conclusions about theme and genre in different cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts and provide evidence from the text to support your understanding.

You will learn strategies to help you edit your writing for correct spelling.

You will learn how to make complex inferences in a play and use textual evidence to support your understanding.
Simile and Metaphor
You will learn how to explain the effect of similes and extended metaphors in literary text.
Imagery and Figurative Language (Grade 8)
You will learn how to make complex inferences and use textual evidence such as imagery and figurative language to support understanding.
Find Connections Across Texts Including Other Media
You will learn how to evaluate the role of media in focusing attention on events and informing opinions on issues as well as techniques used to create point of view, and how this impacts the audience.

You will learn how to use and understand the purpose of subordinating conjunctions.
