Third grade students will identify and discuss facts and details from expository text and draw conclusions using textual evidence in learning stations.

Students will calculate the rate of change and y-intercept from a real-world problem represented in a graph, a table, and/or an equation. They will then display and present their findings to the class.

Students will write a linear equation from a real-world situation, identify the components of the equation, and interpret their meanings in the problem’s context.
Which One Doesn't Belong? Proportional vs Non-Proportional Relationships
Students will make connections as they examine proportional and non-proportional relationships represented in functions including tables, equations, graphs, and verbal descriptions and think critically to determine which one does not belong in a set and why.

Students will analyze multiple texts on the same topic to identify the text structures used and find each author’s purpose.
Students will identify ways in which the U.S. Constitution addresses specific grievances enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.
Analyzing Context Clues to Understand the Meaning of a Word
Students will focus on context clues in a vocabulary lesson.
Planting the Seeds of Perimeter
Students will create planters that meet specific perimeter dimensions. The students will need to determine the number of sides and the perimeter for their planter.
Cause and Effect: The Story of Wangari Maathai
Students will be able to identify cause and effect relationships using an expository text.
Poetry With Purpose
Students collaborate in small groups to discuss their peers’ poetry and assess the poetry according to the student-created rubric. The rubric assesses students’ ability to make meaningful connections to the poetic devices in their poetry. Through collaboration, they are building a culture of receptiveness among their peers.
Summarizing Expository Text
The students will watch the teacher model how to create a summary, and then work in groups to create a summary from an expository text.
Tackling Expository Text
The students will read and summarize expository text using a graphic organizer to aid the process.
Poetic Inferences
In learning stations, students use textual evidence and personal schema to make inferences about the structure and elements of poetry, and provide textual evidence to support their understanding.
The Domino Effect of Cause and Effect
Students will identify explicit cause and effect relationships using keywords and phrases while reading relevant informational texts aligned with technology and current events.
: Students will analyze primary sources, images, and speeches to form opinions about causal relationships and compare and contrast those opinions with historical documents.
As students rotate through learning stations, they analyze the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and the English Bill of Rights. Students interpret the historical documents and draw conclusions as to how these docuemnts have influenced the U.S. system of government.
Students will correlate current events to constitutional grievances and create modern solutions.
Students will identify and analyze the constitutional principle of federalism and the major role it played in the Civil War in regards to the United States government.
Convergent Plate Boundaries
Students will design and test models that will identify crustal features formed by convergent plate boundaries.
